Personal Log - Commander Sanek
U.S.S. Yukon, Stardate 87925.16
The last month of duty has been a busy one for my crew. The new assignment to the Alpha Centauri Institute coincided with a fleet promotion on my part as well as a restructuring of my crew, many of whom are Academy cadets. A strict training curriculum was enforced for all new crew members and the ship has been in training maneuvers for the last two weeks as I re-evaluated the ship's performance, science and research capabilities, and the crew's familiarity and aptitude with their new ship.
I calculate a thirty-seven point nine six percent increase in my crew's efficiency at this time.
Lieutenant Commanders Vaareler and Thryiss have both approached me about their concerns regarding my appointment of Lieutenant Commander Solida as the ship's doctor. Solida developed an attachment of an emotional nature with me during our first voyage together aboard the U.S.S. Nautilus and has attempted to cultivate this emotional attachment during our association throughout the last several years. I have been informed that such attachment is referred to by humans as a 'crush' or 'romantic feelings'. It is quite illogical. Despite the fact that she is not Vulcan - and as such one must make allowances as a result - I have found the Lieutenant Commander's frequent emotional displays somewhat vulgar. However, as it does not violate any protocal standards, it is simply a quirk that I must deal with to include a doctor of her skill and aptitude in my crew.
Her abilities manifested themselves quickly during our latest mission into the Khazon Cluster when the Yukon was attacked by three cloaked Romulan bird's of prey. During the engagement the ship was struck by several plasma torpedoes which resulted in casualties along C and D decks. There were many with plasma burns. Despite the Lieutenant Commander's somewhat pert bearing she quickly assumed her duties professionally and was able to save the lives of several crew whose survival was uncertain at best.
For this action it is my intention to suggest a commendation for the Lieutenant Commander for exceptional performance during a crisis resulting in the survival of several critical crew members.
Our recent return to Starbase 39 from the Khazon Cluster two days ago for repairs and my submittal of several gravimetric and astrophysical anomalies that were investigated has allowed for the injured crew to be transferred to Starbase medical facilities where I have been assured their recovery will be ninety seven point three two percent certain.
