Mission Summary

     The U.S.S. James E. McDonald is an experimental Deep Space Research vessel, and is tasked with the mission of surveying, cataloging, and researching cosmic and subspace anomalies in deep space. The vessel is the first of it's kind, and has been fitted with new technologies that include completely integrated station capabilities, top of the line sickbay and medical facilities, an advanced sensor package, and full facilities to enable the ship to remain away from Federation space for extended periods of time. Recognizing the need for crew accommodation with family, the vessel has also been fitted with suite sized crew quarters so that immediate family may accompany ship crew members during extensive voyages.

Vessel Namesake

     The U.S.S. James E. McDonald is named after the American Physicist James E. McDonald. McDonald became famous for his advocacy in the pursuit for scientific acknowledgment of the Unidentified Flying Object phenomenon. During the 1960's he, along with other prominent scientists of the time such as J. Allen Hynek, campaigned extensively for the expansion of study of the phenomenon, which included a speech to the United Nations on June 7th, 1967, and another speech before the United States Congress in 1968 during a UFO hearing.
