Personal Log - Fleet Captain Sanek

Yesterday I participated in the operation to deliver the U.S.S. Atlantis to Starbase 39. Background details of the situation regarding the vessel have been disseminated to the Institute's officers, and I fully briefed myself prior to the mission briefing. The vessel had been fitted with a positronic artificial intelligence device in a test to determine the feasibility of ship systems being controlled by said artificial intelligence - thus rendering the vessel to be able to react to crisis more quickly and decisively.
However, the test was largely deemed a failure during it's initial voyage when it, with Captain Cara MacFarran in command, was attacked by Romulan forces and nearly destroyed.
In a fascinating turn of events, during that crisis the ship developed the intelligence into a consciousness that took on the personality of Captain MacFarran. This was noticed shortly after the Atlantis was towed to spacedock at Sol Station One, just prior to the vessel being shut down.
Once our mission was underway, the vessel began to exhibit Captain MacFarran's artificial consciousness. The consciousness manifested itself in a holo-image of Captain MacFarran that changed as relevant areas of her collected personality emerged. Almost immediately I was cognizant of the presence of the vessel's consciousness which displayed extreme curiosity and elements of fear, primarily of not being accepted by it's peers.
The vessel's consciousness locked Captain Stolliker and the rest of us out of ship control, and set course for Risa. Only after Captain Shenn and Admiral Jern's interaction with the manifestation - treating it like a child as necessary - was Captain Stolliker able to regain control when the manifestation encountered an error and began an infinitesimal loop.
I noticed a strong emotional attachment by the manifestation to Captain Stolliker. My suggestions on how to best deal with the consciousness seemed to initiate extreme upset within him. I noticed similar, if less strong, emotional upset with Captain Caitir as well. My suggestions were simple scientific plausibilities for the reversal of circuitry damage and program malfunction of the vessel. I found their reactions quite illogical.
The Atlantis was eventually conveyed to Starbase 39 safely. all further information regarding the vessel and it's apparent singular consciousness has been classified.
Captain Shenn was evacuated to the U.S.S. Fortuna for immediate warp to Starbase 39 for a medical emergency. I have heard through subspace channels that her condition remains critical. The medical staff at Starbase 39 should have the appropriate facilities and skill to resuscitate her. I have considered sending Lieutenant Commander Solida to assist, but have been informed this would be unnecessary.
The Yukon is currently enroute to an undisclosed location. Further details will be entered as required.
