Sanek Pers Log 6
Personal Log - Fleet Captain Sanek
U.S.S. Alan Shepard, Stardate 87968.12

Recent events for the search, and retrieval of, Captain Cara McFerran have proved successful. Her medical state upon recovery was critical; however, with Doctor Davin Felth overseeing her care she recovered fairly quickly with little permanent physiological damage. I am told however that the... emotional damage may be more severe, as suggested to me by several officers. I must admit difficulty in understanding this prognosis; however, as Captain McFerran is not Vulcan, my supposition is that it is only logical.

The recovery of Captain McFerran did result in the loss of Captain Stolliker, and his experimental vessel. This I only became aware of after the fact. Further information revealed by Doctor Felth indicated that Captain Stolliker ingested ground glass to enable himself to disregard his orders and participate, albeit covertly, in the search for Captain McFerran. Such action is not logical. A more logical solution would be to disregard his orders and pursue the current leads in the search. However, in my experience with Captain Stolliker, he frequently appeared to allow his emotions to dictate decisions; as such his actions are not outside the realm of expected activity whereas situations such as Captain McFerran's abduction are concerned.

I must at this time state that however an emotional individual Captain Stolliker was, his prowess and skill in warp theory and computer technology was clearly noteworthy; indeed, in my experience I have found no equal to his experience and knowledge therein.

An interesting situation occurred several days after Captain McFerran's recovery however; the discovery of a series of mathematical formula that, upon my perusal, seemed to indicate an attempt to develop a warp bubble from an outside source and maintain the bubble for an undetermined amount of time, and a warp bubble located in the location of the destruction of the U.S.S. Highwind that seemed, from the evidence provided, to fit the formulas hypothetical scenario. When pursuing the relevant logic of these events, it clearly led to the possibility that Captain Stolliker had somehow been able to develop said warp bubble and save himself from the destruction of the U.S.S. Highwind.

However, I must state that Captain Stolliker's survival is, at this time, supposition and does not align with the facts. Only if we localize and possibly recover the warp bubble found at the Highwind's destruction site will we able to determine Captain Stolliker's survival.

The recent death of my mother and the required tasks associated with the passing of her Katra were completed much more quickly than I surmised they may be. A logical being, she had all the required tasks, ceremonies, and legal proceedings completed beforehand; aside from post death responsibilities of course. These I took care of in short order and was able to get underway again within seventy-two hours of my arrival on Vulcan.

I have recently taken captaincy of a new ship, a Discovery Class Long Range Science vessel named the U.S.S. Alan Shepard. The ship had only undergone the required shakedown cruise prior to it's assignment to me, and as such had only the standard Starfleet phaser and torpedo weapons. The conversion to plasma, tetryonic, and quantum weaponry has proven difficult; several faults have occurred in the circuitry housing of the quantum torpedoes, and the tetryonic phaser banks have caused significant drains on warp engine power output that were unexpected. Attempted solutions to this problem caused significant burnout damage to the re-routed systems and deflector dish circuitry during a recent test. As such, the ship remains in drydock at Starbase 39 until solutions present themselves.

Further difficulties arose with the loss of almost half my Reseach Vessel crew; the Alan Shepard's crew complement is two hundred officers and personnel, while the Archimedes crew compliment was twice that number. Admittedly, the Alan Shepard's weaponry fitting solutions have provided the necessary time to remand the dismissed crew to their respective billets and finalize personnel files. Two new officers have been assigned to me by Starfleet, Ensign Lyradis; of the Bajoran race, and Ensign Tufap, a Vulcan from Terra. Ensign Lyradis will be assigned as assistant to Chief Engineer Giphyd, while Ensign Tufap will be assistant to Commander Vaareler in Astrogation and Astometric sciences.

     End Log.
