Delta Volanis Incident Hearing Notes
Since the Admiralty Hearing related to Sanek's actions during the Delta Volanis Incident were a closed courtroom affair, I wanted to allow anyone else who was unable to participate as a result to read the events. As such, I have taken the chat transcript and written it out into a short story. For information about the Delta Volanis Incident - and the actual situation that occurred that caused the hearing - proceed to the following link and read from that page forward:
The Delta Volanis Incident
Additionally, despite the short story format, all spoken words by Admiral Allahweh Felth, Vice Admiral Kry'Lot Nahv, Admiral Laul Finn, Master Chief Jessica Richards, Admiral Jacen Caedus, and Commander Solida T'yra are the actual spoken chat words used by their respective players. During the interviews themselves, the words spoken by Sanek, Vaareler, Giphyd, and Thryiss are the actual spoken chat words as well. Some text has been rearranged to follow suit with the changes of location. Some, but VERY little, artistic license was used for some of the principle characters in the narrative.
Principle characters in this hearing were the following, along with the player who played them for reference:
- Vice Admiral Kry'Lot Nahv (MJ)
- Admiral Laul Finn (Ethan)
- Admiral Allahweh Felth (Jessica)
- Admiral Jacen Caedus (Jacen)
- Master Chief Jessica Richards (Jessica)
- Fleet Captain Sanek (Sanek)
- Commander Vaareler (Sanek)
- Commander Thryiss (Sanek)
- Commander Giphyd (Sanek)
- Commander Solida (Jessica)
- Engisn Lyradis (Sanek) Note: Lyradis was not ever used during the hearing - her narratives below are for story.
The location of the initial area where all involved parties met has been changed from the bridge of the USS Fairbanks to the Lounge for obvious reasons. In the lounge area, liberties were taken to flesh out the story on the behalf of Sanek's crew themselves. Other small liberties were taken, for the same reason, at the beginning of the story as well.
Note the pertinant details of the actual incident, and upon which the hearing was convened, are indicated below.
Formal Hearing against Captain Sanek regarding financial loss of USS Alan Shepard, NCC-551961:
Vessel: U.S.S. Alan Shepard
Class: Discovery class Long Range Science Vessel
Registration: NCC-551961
Summary of Accusations:
Captain Sanek is accused of negligence on the part of Starfleet safety procedures whereas proper protocols are concerned with established safe zones for the study of unknown cosmic phenomenon. Furthermore, this negligence caused the near destruction of the Starfleet vessel USS Alan Shepard (NCC-551961), as well as the injuries, some severe, of 89 members of his crew.
Summary of Damage:
- Destruction to port warp nacelle via impact with large cosmic object (asteroid)
- Destruction of sensor dish and resultant sensor suite due to impact with large cosmic object (asteroid)
- Large hull breach on deck 7 above sensor dish due to impact with large cosmic object (asteroid - same object that struck sensor dish)
- Large cracks in warp core causing power efficiency levels to drop to less than 47.34% of nominal efficiency
- Severe structural damage over 46.93% of external hull due to gravimetric stress and occillations, resulting in eleven hull breaches of varying severity (to include large breach previously indicated)
- Forward turbolift inoperable due to structural distention below deck 6
- Aft turbolift completely inoperable due to structural distention
- Severe structural damage to 74.38% of all interior bulkheads, with approximately 42.3% of indicated bulkheads requiring complete replacement due to structural distention (note that this includes ceiling and floor panels)
- 66.21% of all electrical conduit requiring replacement or repair due to damage via distention, cuts, or shorts
- 65% of all bridge consoles require complete replacement, 35.45% of those requiring complete re-wiring and calibration
- Main bridge viewscreen destroyed and requires replacement
- Shuttle bay doors require refitting due to hull distention
- Complete repair, cleaning, and refitting of rear observation lounge due to severe fire damage
Summary of factual data (i.e., "black box" data):
- Reached Delta Volanis Anomaly DC-8538-AA on stardate 87459.61 from 2.37 light year distance.
- Scanned Anomaly DC-8538-AA with long range scans - current anomaly state indicated safe distance of 1 billion kilometers.
- Initiated warp 8.0 to indicated safe distance of Anomaly DC-8538-AA on stardate 87459.72. (2.8 hour travel time)
- Reached safe distance of 1 billion kilometers on stardate 87459.85. (indicated safe distance ordered by Captain Sanek)
- Began study of Anomaly DC-8538-AA (via short range scans on all scan resolutions, and one Type IX probe).
- Initial data collated indicated the following characteristics of Anomaly DC-8538-AA (in sequence of events):
- Abnormaly high level of X-Ray radiation emissions with defined dispersal effect
- Strong gravitational field with slight gravitational lensing
- Large accretion disk of cosmic matter indicative of a rotating stellar mass
- Strong gamma ray emissions that disperse quickly
- Gravimetric to mass ratio inconsistent with black hole mechanics, however it was consistent with theorized white hole mechanics
- Gravimetric field strength strong enough that scans could not return data on internal structure
- Probe launch indicated time displacement consistent with quantum singularity mechanics
- Photographic evidence that central object in Anomaly DC-8538-AA disappears on stardate 87459.87925
- X-Ray emissions began dissipating at an exponential rate on stardate 87459.88
- Upon central object disappearance, Anomaly DC-8538-AA immediately became consistent with a gravitational collapse of small stellar mass
- Anomaly DC-8538-AA gravitational envelope increased, enveloping the USS Alan Shepard on stardate 87459.88214
- At stardate 87459.89 Anomaly DC-8538-AA mechanics became consistent with a small stellar mass black hole
- On stardate 87459.88532 USS Alan Shepard begins yaw axis maneuver consistent with exit of gravitational pull opposite 180 degrees (order by Captain Sanek)
- On stardate 87459.88641 USS Alan Shepard experienced massive port warp drive failure - warp core damage through feedback 3 seconds later. Warp core power levels drop to 38.56% of nominal levels
- On stardate 87459.88653 USS Alan Shepard's artificial gravity compensator system shut down (order by Captain Sanek - compensator shut down resulted in 89 crew injuries)
- On stardate 87459.88736 USS Alan Shepard experienced massive destructive damage to sensor dish - hull breach on deck 7 occurs simultaneously
- On stardate 87459.88873 USS Alan Shepard accelerated to full impulse - severe structural damage begins across all decks due to gravimetric occillation (acceleration previously ordered by Captain Sanek)
- On stardate 87459.88995 USS Alan Shepard escapes Anomaly DC-8538-AA gravitational envelope and engages warp 1 (previously ordered by Captain Sanek)
